THE COMPETITION BRIEF CALLED FOR AN ‘ART FACTORY’ THAT COULD ACCOMMODATE VERY LARGE WORKS OF ART FOR EXHIBIT.
THIS PROJECT, ADJACENT TO A LARGE URBAN LAWN CONSISTS OF A SERIES OF LAYERED SKINS. A SOLID INNER SHELL WITH STRATEGIC OPENINGS ON THE WALLS AND ROOF ALLOWS LIGHT PENETRATION INTO THE GALLERY INTERIOR AND THE TRANSPARENT OUTER WEATHERPROOF SHELL CREATES A SHIMMERING, LAYERED GLASS BOX. AT NIGHT THE BUILDING GLOWS.
THE SUBTLE PLAY OF LIGHT WITHIN THE CLEAN, UNCLUTTERED AND VOLUMINOUS INTERIORS CREATES A SERIES OF CALM, SUBTLE SPACES THAT PROVIDE A BACKDROP FOR THE ARTWORK, WITHOUT DISTRACTING THE VISITOR.
